Time Capsule: Each artist envisions what is precious to them now that needs to be remembered in the future.
Yukimi Matsumoto of Sandwich is displaying her glass artworks. Born in Osaka, Japan, she graduated from the Osaka School of Design, specializing in Production Design. In 2002, she and her husband opened McDermott Glass Studio in Sandwich, where they design and produce handcrafted glass artwork.
Over the years, she said, her approach to glassblowing has evolved into a true partnership with the material itself. “I embrace a spirit of cooperation with the medium – working alongside the glass to transform an uninspired blob into something evocative and expressive.”
Formal art training for Dawn McKenzie of Osterville began at New York City’s High School of Music and Art and continued at University of Connecticut, followed by additional studies at the Art Students League in New York, Pratt Institute and the Brooklyn Museum.
She said, “I work across a range of media to create pieces to reflect the worlds I have loved, imagined or wished to be true.” Her mixed media visual narratives include three-dimensional shadow boxes, as well as works on cardboard, canvas and panels, some incorporating LED lighting. She combines watercolor, acrylic paint, colored pencil and graphite with materials such as paper, wood, plastic and fabric.
Jackie Reeves of Sandwich is a multidisciplinary artist working across large-scale painting, drawing, installation, collage, and animation. Her work brings together figurative and abstract elements through layered mark-making, material experimentation, and an ongoing interest in process, memory, and transformation.
Reeves began her career as a professional mural painter, creating work for corporate, private, and public spaces – an experience that continues to inform her approach to scale, physicality, and site-responsive work. She earned her MFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art and Design through the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
Abby Fay Smith of Barnstable is an artist and art educator. As a mixed-media artist, her work reflects her experiences as a woman, global citizen, mother and wife, using painting, drawing, printmaking, collage and textiles. She holds a B.A. in Art Education and Painting and an M.Ed. in Visual Arts, having studied at Lesley University, Rhode Island College, Studio Arts Centers International in Florence and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
