An Exhibit of Tapestry on display from March 7 to 31 2025 in the Landrau-Partan Gallery at Falmouth Art Center
The Oxford English Dictionary defines tapestry as a thick textile fabric with pictures or designs formed by weaving colored threads or by embroidering on canvas, used as a wall hanging or furniture covering. The art of tapestry goes back thousands of years to the 2nd century BC and is also a contemporary medium.
The local artists with work in the Tapestry show at Falmouth Art Center are Emma Jo Mills Brennan of Mashpee, Susan A. Clark of Barnstable, JoAnn Vierkant of Marion and Katie Hickey of Wellfleet. In addition, the work of acclaimed tapestry artist Morris David Dorenfeld (1937 – 2023) will also be on view as part of the Tapestry show. Mr. Dorenfeld who lived in Maine has a Cape Cod connection as he spent time in Provincetown.
