Description
Thursday July 30, 2026
9 am – 4pm
There will be a short Lunch Break – bring a bagged lunch
Artists can learn so much from being outdoors painting from life; and this workshop is designed to take you through the steps of gathering information on location with studies and sketches that can then be used to start a new painting in the studio or to finesse one of the studies.
You will complete multiple small plein air sketches/ studies with focus on composition, value, color. In the afternoon we will be in the studio classroom at FAC to explore how the studies can be used to begin a new studio painting or you can choose to continue and finalize your plein air studies. An email will be sent on Tuesday before the workshop to confirm the morning location.
Betsy will share tips and pointers during her demonstration. Goals will include developing sketching techniques & planning skills for composition, using value to simplify shapes & limit detail, and creative options for selecting color palettes. Artists will receive individual feedback.
Suitable for any medium, but you must have a good working knowledge of your medium if you are not using pastels. Betsy is a pastel painter who incorporates multi-media in her pastel paintings.
