Description
Saturday and Sunday, October 24 & 25
9am to 4pm

This workshop is about creating a studio painting from a smaller study, focusing on values and design. Students will create a painting from nature, a sketch or a photo, for example a simple scene of Cape Cod. The instructor will teach the students how to turn the image into a good design for a painting. On the final day, the design will be turned into a larger painting of 16 x 20 or larger.
This workshop uses acrylic and oil paints. Students can also use just acrylic or just oils. But the instructor will be teaching a method that uses both acrylics and oils. The underpainting is done with acrylics and the finishing touches are done with oil paints.
It is a color-based workshop designed for artists to grasp a better understanding of light and color. John will show various ways to mix and apply color that will make your painting light-filled and express the light key. We will work on getting good structural design through values and color.
Using various tools (Brushes as well as a painting knife) the artists will work on getting good color notes to bring out expressive designs. We will also go over the use of creating Notan for our designs.
Check the Materials tab for supplies students need to bring with them to class.
Don’t forget to pack a lunch! If you forgot your lunch or need to pick one up early in the morning, Cape Cod Bagel is open and located about one mile from FAC and makes sandwiches early in the morning.
