Kitchen Table Printmaking – Intermediate

Take your printmaking to a new level and join a class for printmakers who already possess basic skills in designing, carving and printing. If you’d like to explore more challenging techniques such as 2-4 color prints, multi-color reduction prints, and accurate registration techniques– all in an online, supportive environment, this is the class for you.

Refund policy:

Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.

The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.

Materials

For the 1st class, students will need tracing paper, pencils, an eraser and a sharpie pen.

To complete the 1st project, students will need everything but the watercolors and brushes. This includes:

Linoleum Blockshttps://www.dickblick.com/items/richeson-easy-to-cut-unmounted-linoleum-12-x-18/ These blocks are the “goldilocks” of linoleum in my book. They come in multiple sizes. You might favor working small: 4 x 6 or 5 x 7. We’ll be using 2 of the same size for a 2 color print, 1 for a reduction print, and 1 larger one for a hand-colored print. I advise buying a few extra in case you change your mind, mess up or get very ambitious! I like to buy the 12″ x 18″ sheet because it is the best value and then divide that as needed. You may want to work large or small, so choose your block sizes accordingly

Yasutomo Kozo Paper This thin, strong paper is perfect for your final 2 color and reduction prints. It comes in a package of 10. I’d advise getting 2 of them.

Caligo safe wash inkThis is an oil-based ink that can be cleaned up with soap and water. Truly a great invention! If you buy this set you can mix any color using black, white, red, yellow and blue. In addition, you’ll need supplies commonly found at home like a flat wooden spoon for burnishing, a bathtub, a shallow baking pan or rimmed cookie sheet for soaking paper, and an old towel for blotting paper.

Instructor Bio

Ashley Wolff has been a visual artist since she declared herself one at the age of 5.

She grew up in Middlebury, Vermont and holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design.

Ashley is the author and/or illustrator of over 70 children’s picture books including Baby Bear Sees Blue, Stella and Roy Go Camping, Only the Cat Saw, Compost Stew, Baby Beluga, and the beloved Miss Bindergarten Series.

Every summer Ashley teaches writing and illustration in the Children’s Picture Book Writing & Illustration MFA and certificate programs at Hollins University.

For 30 years one of Ashley’s favorite pastimes has been traveling to schools all over the US, speaking to children about writing, drawing and using their imagination to help them find their paths to the future.

She lives and works on Lake Dunmore in Leicester, VT.
