Level: No experience necessary.
This class is geared toward beginners or artists with some experience who want to learn more about basic techniques, tools and materials involved in creating 2-dimensional mosaic art.
This class covers types of tesserae (a small block of stone, tile, glass or other materials used in the construction of a mosaic), cutting, proper adhesives, substrates, design/layout and grouting.
You will learn how to safely cut and break materials (plates, stone, tile, glass, etc.) with mosaic tools to use for your mosaic. We will discuss andamento—the flow of mosaics and learn different ways to lay tesserae in the direct technique with a PVA glue.
All materials, supplies and use of tools are provided.
Students are encouraged to experiment and begin to discover the possibilities of mosaic. No experience necessary.
A Materials fee of $30 is due to the instructor by cash or check.

Refund Policy:
Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class and one month before the start of a workshop. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.
The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.




Fradkin is a mosaicist, painter (gouache, acrylic, pastel and encaustic) mosaic teacher with a degree in fine art and education and a background in graphic design. Her mosaic and pastel work has been exhibited nationally and is in private collections. She studied with master pastelists in the US (Aline Ordman, Robert Carsten) and master mosaicists in US and England (Verdiano Marzi, Emma Biggs, Sonia King and others). Her work reflects her love and study of color and is influenced by her background in graphic design and fiber arts.
