FULL : Tuesdays, January 7 – March 11
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm (10 Weeks)

This is your chance to finally experience the wonderful world of clay! Learn the basics of making both bowls and mugs on the wheel, and fundamentals of handbuilding with clay. We will also learn to complete the process by beautifying our pieces in the glazing process. All of your treasures completed in this class will be microwave and dishwasher safe. (In case you were wondering) Absolutely no experience necessary, but if you have been out of the game for a long time, or you just want a refresher, this is your class!

Bring an apron or an old towel to protect your clothes. We sell sturdy aprons in red, black and tan at Falmouth Art Center for $28 if you need to purchase one.

The Falmouth Art Center is very proud to have a scholarship fund supported by donations from members and friends. It is available for both children and adults who have a great desire to create art. Scholarship Information and Forms

Refund policy:

Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.

The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.

Materials

Fee includes 25 pounds of clay, glaze and firing fee. A tool kit may be purchased for $20. Open studio time, which is scheduled several times throughout the week, is available at no extra charge.

Instructor Bio

Melissa Hofer is a Falmouth resident who has been working with clay at the Falmouth Art Center for the last 6 years. She primarily makes functional work in a variety of clay types and firing techniques, especially enjoying the wood firing process. She also works full time at Cape Cod Healthcare in the IT Department.

Ocean McDonald began an exploration of ceramics at Falmouth Art Center four years ago, focusing on hand-building. Their unique style and original compositions quickly caught the attention of instructors. Interested in all aspects of the ceramics process, they were made the Falmouth Art Center Clay Studio assistant, helping with glaze-making, firing and other studio duties. As a sought-after potter, Ocean was also hired by the well-known ceramics studio, Scargo Pottery in Dennis, as an assistant in their studio. He began co-teaching beginner ceramics classes at the Falmouth Art Center and has earned the praise of students.
