The Falmouth Art Center is offering a free art class for government workers who have been furloughed as a result of the government shut down. Art teacher Christina Jacobi of East Falmouth will offer a class combining collage and art journaling entitled, Collage For Fun: Papers, Paints and Everything Else!
Ms. Jacobi describes the class as offering “demonstrations to spark ideas; and experimentation with new materials or familiar materials used in new ways.”
“The sky’s the limit! Combine leaves, thread or sand in your piece. Paint with sticks, straws, sponges. If it comes to mind, try it,” she said.
The class is for all levels. No art experience is necessary. Ms. Jacobi said, “This can be a mindful activity. Anything that keeps you in the moment this way is a stress reliever.”
Ms. Jacobi, who is donating her time, will offer the class weekly for up to three sessions depending on the interest. The class will be held Thursdays from 1:30 to 3pm at the Falmouth Art Center. The first class will be Thursday, January 24.
Class size is limited to 10 people and is first come, first serve. Students need to sign up by Tuesday, January 22, to ensure there are enough students to run the class. Sign up by calling the Falmouth Art Center at 508-540-3304. Students must bring their government ID to the first class.
Ms. Jacoby said she wanted to offer the class as a way to help those who are out of work and, perhaps feeling out of sorts, due to the government shutdown.
