In this lecture, author/artist/environmentalist Susan Baur will introduce the three most common pond turtles found on Cape Cod:  snappers, painted turtles and stinkpot turtles. Susan will then take us on an underwater tour of the year of the turtle. We follow them as they come out of hibernation in the spring, lay eggs which hopefully hatch, and return to the pond to feed and fight for their territories. We explore the gradual changes that occur in ponds as more swimmers and boaters use them each year, and we learn how we can help preserve healthy ponds for all. She will also discuss her artistic process for the work in her current show at the Falmouth Art Center.
