Fancy a break from the wheel? Come and try something a bit different for a week: sculpting with a slab roller.
Slab rollers are an essential part of the clay artist’s ‘toolbox’, and are easy and fun to use. They produce large slabs of uniform clay quickly. This opens up to the artist the ability to make a variety of beautiful pieces such as bags, shoes, clothing, faces and even figures in a manner that can’t be achieved simply by hand or with a potter’s wheel. During this 15 hour workshop spread over five evenings, instructor Neil Grant will demonstrate the underlying principles of making slab-based pieces and will lead students through two short but rewarding projects. This class is a great introduction to slab sculpting.
