Description
Monday through Friday, February 20 -24
12:30pm – 3:30pm
This class is open to students in Grade 4-8.
If you have ever folded paper, then stapled it, or used tape to hold it together, you have made a simple book. This class will teach all the skills needed to make books that can be used for different purposes, including a journal, a sketch book, a school project, a special gift for a friend or writing and illustrating a story.
When making a handmade book students will learn to bind papers together using several different traditional bindings.
The following techniques will be introduced: single section binding, Japanese binding, the accordion folded book, and books with multi-sections. Students will learn how to use adhesives to design hard and soft covers for their books.
All students will be encouraged to explore each book in their own personal way. There will be time within the class structure for students to write or illustrate their books. While learning traditional ways to bind books, a variety of “fun” books will be explored.
Health and Safety Plan:
·Students may wear masks if they want to but they are not required.
·Students are asked to wash their hands when they begin their art class at Falmouth Art Center. Students are encouraged to wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer during the class and after class.
·We practice social distancing of 3 feet during kids classes.
·We use portable HEPA filters in the classrooms that filter the air every 15 minutes in addition to our built in HEPA filters.
Refund policy:
Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.
The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.
If Falmouth Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions, we will be closed and the missed classes will be rescheduled.
