This class is taught by master puppeteer Jacek Zuzanski of Dream Tale Puppets.
We will dive into the world of paper theater, also called model theater or toy theater. This form of miniature theater developed in the early 19th century in Europe was claimed by 21st century artists as an inspiring puppetry form and lead to development of many highly recognized artistic theaters, and original styles of high artistic quality of puppetry.
We will design and build cardboard theaters, scenery and puppets, enjoy studying a variety of mediums and techniques (painting, drawing, cutting-out, decoupage, collage). We will learn scripting, adapting a story for the stage, storyboarding, improvising scenes, developing dialogs and characters. Students will have fun studying ways to bring puppets to life and to give them clear and expressive characterization. At the end of class we will invite families and friends to see magnificent presentations. Everybody will take home her or his own theater to produce the next shows.
