this is a workshop for active, experienced painters looking to deepen their understanding of what abstract painting is and how it’s done. it is not a workshop for beginners. while the majority of class time is spent painting (canvases and basic paints supplied), students also experience first-hand certain related fields of knowledge such as meditation, the writings of the ancient taoist philosophers, and quantum physics. students are expected to work with a minimum of guidance from the instructor in their efforts to find their own individual ways of painting

The Falmouth Art Center is very proud to have a scholarship fund supported by donations from members and friends. It is available for both children and adults who have a great desire to create art. Scholarship Information and Forms

REFUND POLICY:
Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.
The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.

Materials

materials the students needs to provide:

paint (bring in what you’re used to and particularly like – heavy-bodied acrylic paints are recommended – oil paints are not allowed)

any medium or additive you use

papers for collage work

brushes, palette knives, and scrapers or pattern makers

protective clothing

drawing materials if you are drawing, such as paper, pastels, charcoal, pencils, and pens

miscellaneous supporting materials such as rulers, water containers, mixing bowls or plates, scissors, etc

students do not need to bring in canvases, sketchbooks, or matboard (all provided)

remember to bring a bag lunch

coffee is provided at no cost

bring warm clothing if you’d like to sit outside to eat lunch

Instructor Bio

david ament – short biography

david ament received a b.a. from harvard, where he was an editor of the harvard art review and editor-in-chief of the undergraduate creative writing and visual arts magazine. he settled in falmouth in the late 1970’s, where he continued to develop his own form of abstract painting and of abstract, visual poetry. he has been a long-time member of the falmouth artists guild and was selected for full artist’s membership in the bromfield gallery on newbury street in boston. his award-winning paintings have been shown in numerous invitational and solo shows in new england and were recognized with the copley society’s maria maravigna excellence in technique award
