Description
Saturday April 22 & 29
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
While working on her accordion folded book for the exhibit “Mourning Art”, Christine began to think that others might like the opportunity/experience to create a personal book. Her accordion folded book became a narration of travels with her friend Greg. Perhaps your book will focus on an idea that is of interest to you: a special person, a friend, a pet. Participants will be encouraged to collect and bring items to incorporate into a book form that would be uniquely personal. Coming to the workshop with an idea for a book is essential.
During this exploration of creating a personal book, participants will learn about different types of handmade books, then choose one that will reflect their personal content. It might end up being a book with pages sewn together or an accordion style book. Books can be very sculptural and made to show many different things. Our books might include books within books, hidden pockets or envelopes: all different ways to incorporate photographs, letters, poems, fabric, and other items particular to telling your story.
Participants will be encouraged and supported to explore each book form in their own personal, unique way. Included in this exploration will be discussions of papers, binding materials, glues, and adhesives. Christine will guide participants in finding their way to create a special book.
See the materials tab for suggested materials.
Participants are encouraged to bring personal items to include in their books.
