DescriptionTuesdays: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
January 9, 2018 – March 20, 2018
This is a 10 week class – There is no class on January 23rd.
If you’ve ever looked at sculpture and thought, “Ooh, I like it, but it looks so hard,” this is the course to dissuade you of that notion. Take a hands-on tour of the world of sculpting with instructor, Neil Grant.
Each of the classes will introduce you to a different aspect of clay sculpting from portraiture to figure sculpting to working with a slab roller. This is the ideal course for those looking to explore sculpting, whether you have previous experience with clay or not, with demonstrations and the ability to try different types of sculpting out in a fun and friendly atmosphere. It will also set students up with a good grounding for future classes.
“This class will give students an appreciation of the breadth of things they can create with clay sculpture through listening, seeing and then trying. It’s the course I wish I’d done before plunging into sculpture,” says Neil. “Each class builds on the previous one, and at the end of it students should have a broad appreciation of the world of clay sculpting and hopefully be eager to pursue an area that interests them further.”
During the class, students will produce a realistic face mask, a torso model, a relief and a slab sculpture. This course is also ideal for potters who want to incorporate more representational techniques into their work e.g. Toby Mugs.
Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.
The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.
If Falmouth Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions, we will be closed and the missed classes will be rescheduled.
