This workshop is open to anyone who has already taken Sue’s Beginner Landscape Quilting Workshop. Participants can work at their own pace in this informal class and ask for assistance as needed.

Falmouth Art Center Refund Policy:

Refunds will not be given within one month of the start of a workshop. Workshops are not pro-rated. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.

The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.

Materials

Beginners’ Landscape Quilting Workshop with Sue Colozzi
Supply List

Recommended quilt size approximately 12″ x 12″

Supplies:
• Sewing machine in working order, power cord, foot pedal, owner’s manual
• Photograph of your selected scene enlarged to your quilt size (on printer paper is fine)
• Muslin and batting (I use Warm N Natural) for your selected quilt size plus an extra 2” on width and 2” on length
• Freezer paper (available in the grocery store)
• 1 yd. of Heat ‘N Bond, Steam a Seam, or Wonder Under double-sided fusible webbing (I like Heat ‘N Bond)
• A piece of clear vinyl (any weight) the size of your quilt (available at JoAnn Fabrics)
• General sewing supplies (scissors, pins, seam ripper)
• Ruler (at least 12”)
• Rotary cutter and mat (if you prefer to use your own – mine will be available)
• Regular pen, permanent marker, and pencil
• Assorted spools of thread that match your fabrics (ie. several shades of green, blue, brown, gray)
• Bobbin threaded with white thread
• Empty paper towel tube (optional) to roll and store quilt

• Fabric based on your photo. After our first session you will have a better idea of fabrics that will work well for your scene. Please bring multiple pieces and small scraps for sky, buildings, flora, etc. (color on color works better than solid colors). If you don’t have a large fabric stash, you might want to invest in some “fat quarters”.

Instructor Bio

Sue Colozzi is a local fiber artist who specializes in detailed landscape quilts. Her current work combines her two lifetime interests of sewing and art. A resident of both Reading and Falmouth, MA, Sue has always loved the New England landscape, particularly the different neighborhoods of Boston and towns on the Cape. She portrays these scenes as quilts, combining the textures and patterns of fabric along with stitching to form the buildings, flora, and seascapes.

A Wisconsin native, Sue moved to the Boston area after earning a BFA in weaving from Syracuse University. She then completed a graduate degree with a specialty of integrating the arts into education from Lesley College. Sue worked as a fifth grade teacher until retiring in 2010 and, at that point, decided to start to experiment with landscape quilting. Over the last several years Sue has developed her own techniques for working with fabric and has a clearly recognizable sty le. She has taught landscape quilting workshops at local fabric stores and art centers. Her quilts have been included in a number of museums, national quilt shows, and local art festivals. Sue’s landscape quilts are part of private collections in homes, Falmouth Hospital, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
