Mondays, January 6 – March 10
6:00pm to 9:00pm

This is a 10 week class for all levels.

In this class, you’ll explore a combination of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques to create both functional and sculptural ceramic pieces. We’ll guide you from concept to completion, introducing you to foundational skills such as pinch, coil, and slab construction alongside wheel techniques. Through hands-on practice, you’ll learn to merge these methods, allowing for a versatile approach to your work, whether your goal is to craft functional items or experiment with more expressive, sculptural forms.

The Falmouth Art Center is very proud to have a scholarship fund supported by donations from members and friends. It is available for both children and adults who have a great desire to create art. Scholarship Information and Forms

Refund policy:

Refunds will not be given within one week of the start of a class. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.

The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.

If Falmouth Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions, we will be closed and the missed classes will be rescheduled.

Materials

Fee includes 25 pounds of clay, glaze and firing fee. A tool kit may be purchased for $20. Open studio time, which is scheduled several times throughout the week, is available at no extra charge.

Bring an apron or an old towel to protect your clothes. We sell sturdy aprons in red, black and tan at Falmouth Art Center for $28 if you need to purchase one.

Instructor Bio

Joanne Mogilnicki’s dedication to fostering connections through art is deeply ingrained in both her teaching and creative pursuits. Through her work and instruction, she seeks to inspire others to not only tap into their innate creativity but also to find beauty and mystery in the mundane, joy in the daily routine. Her ceramic pieces are designed to elevate, enhance and integrate seamlessly into daily life, whether it’s a morning cup of coffee from a handmade mug, a vase cradling fresh flowers, or a bowl serving up a garden salad.

Studying at the Kansas City Art Institute, Mass Art, and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maine College of Art and Design, Joanne’s educational training has served as a robust foundation for her artistic endeavors. Her apprenticeships at Brewster Pottery on Cape Cod and Salt Marsh Pottery in Dartmouth, MA, provided her with comprehensive skills in ceramic studio management, from clay preparation, glaze mixing to firing electric and gas kilns.

In 1990, Joanne founded Menemsha Gallery, a hub for community engagement through art. There, she curated exhibitions showcasing her own work alongside work by local, regional, and national artists. She also taught art classes while her making and exhibiting her work in Palm Beach, Soho, and Newbury Street galleries. Her career trajectory shifted when she began teaching art full-time at North Attleborough High School, leading to the transformation of Menemsha Gallery into Palmer River Arts, a neighborhood art and teaching studio. It was during this time frame that Joanne also earned her Master’s degree in Art Education (MAE).

Currently, Joanne teaches Ceramics, Analogue Photography, and Art History at Old Rochester Regional High School. A fairly new resident to Plymouth, MA, she remains deeply engaged in creating ceramic work, in both her home studio and the Falmouth Art Center. Joanne continues to explore and play in clay, paint, printmaking, gardening, and various projects and pursuits, while inviting her students to join her in challenging themselves to question, make, reflect and communicate – to connect and find joy in the most common of circumstances.
