Personal Best: Paintings from the Studio and Plein Air  (June 1 to 31 in the Sigel Gallery)

A group showing of artwork created by artists who have taken classes with Betsy Payne Cook at the Falmouth Art Center.

As artists we all explore and create art to meet our own visions and expectations. As a group we acknowledge that our individual efforts are enhanced when they are shared and celebrated with others.

Thanks to all that have joined to make this show a success.

Betsy Payne Cook paints exclusively with pastels and is honored to be elected as a Juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America and to have achieved signature membership status in the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. Betsy is also acknowledged as a Juried Master Artist at the Cape Cod Art Association. Betsy’s paintings depict her impressions of the landscape and its abundance of colors. She paints both en plein air and in her studio; and conveys her love of the outdoors in each painting.

Maryann Bolsover:  These are my favorite subjects, recollections of walks with my grandchildren.

Lisa Daigle:  I am a pastel artist who paints to express my gratitude for life.

Linda Farmer:  Cape Cod is full of color and light year round and I find pastel is the best medium to capture these vibrant changing patterns.

Mary Lou Harwood:  I have been painting with pastels under Betsy’s guidance and leadership for over a decade. It continues to be a joy, an inspiration, and a challenge. I continue to be grateful.

Celeste Kramer:  Originally an oil painter, the flora and beauty of Cape Cod inspires me to capture what I see in the brilliance of soft pastels.

Deborah Locke:  I love painting in pastels because I can control color, and mark making nuances in my work.

Shirley Lombardozzi:  I find myself drawn to paint things when they tug at my emotions , speak to me in some way or present a challenge.

Liz St.Pierre:  I enjoy painting with pastels because of the softness , depth of color and the extraordinary mark making you can achieve .

Paula Thompson:  I paint in acrylic en plein air and in the studio; in my plein air pieces I try to create a simple but lively impression of that location at that particular moment in time.

Catherine Vanderbil:  As an artist, I find enjoyment in the challenge, the pleasing shapes and colors and the emotional connection to life and bringing joy to others with my art. I am very happy to be learning the medium of Pastel and as a student of Betsy Payne Cook, I am experimenting with different mediums and learning a better approach to creating paintings.
