Exhibit dates: April 1 to 30 in the Sigel Gallery at the Falmouth Art Center
Deborah Watson, a native Cape Codder who lives in Waquoit, said she inherited her artistic talents from her mother and grandmother. Her life has taken her in many directions, including hairdressing school in New Bedford and running a bed and breakfast in Wareham.
She has been involved with Falmouth Art Center for more than 10 years, taking classes and participating in the Friday Figure Group, a meetup group at the art center.
An avid boater, she said she finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the ocean and that is why she is showing mostly artwork with a sea life theme for this show. She also loves to paint the colorful flowers found throughout the region.
She calls one of her signature themes for paintings, her “charted mermaids.” These are mermaids painted on nautical charts, reminiscent of historic sailors’ log books. She started painting mermaids on nautical charts in 2000.
