OTHER WORLDS: LANDSCAPE PAINTING BY DUNYA MCPHERSON
February 1 – February 28, Sigel Gallery at the Falmouth Art Center
Artist Statement – Dunya McPherson
What’s around the bend, hidden over there? All my life I have been drawn to this sense of things. As I absorb more deeply into the topic of landscapes, I discover an infinity of worlds within worlds.
I am fortunate to have spent my life as a practicing, professional artist in a number of forms. A disciplined, pleasurable honing of skills and understanding of structure is common to all.
I am grateful to my grandmother, a portrait and landscape painter who, wherever we went, brought a sketchbook and taught me how to draw and see. More recently I bow in gratitude to Falmouth artist Diana Lee, and to the wonderful painting group she has gathered, for inspiration, guidance, and companionship. I am influenced by contemporary impressionists Mitchell Albala, Cecilia Kirby Binkley, Kevin Macpherson, Lee McCleod among many, many others.
Dunya McPherson is a New York Times acclaimed National Endowment for the Arts choreographer/dancer, academic educator, internationally sought meditation authority, author of two books on Sufi mysticism, seeker, tea drinker, and painter. She lives in Woods Hole.
