Juror Michael Di Stefano
Best in Show:
Rick Branscomb, Resting Among the Columns
The black and white media is an excellent choice for this image. The processing and print are exquisite. Rich dark black with details and crisp clean whites. The 3-dimensional feeling is wonderful and the sense of scale is impactful/
Best Street Scene:
Michael Klehm, Taking Time
The highly detailed scene is conveyed superbly in the black and white media. The composition is primarily symmetrical with the building and doorway but thrown off balance by the woman sitting.
Best Color:
Michael Corthell, Quineboquin Autumn
The entire composition is filled with bright beautiful varied colors. The depth of scene is brought out by the soft mist in the background. Tree branches bisect and connect the full frame nicely.
Best Motion:
Greg Anderson, Blustery Nobska
The stark contrast of the sharp detailed lighthouse with the soft blurry motion of moving clouds makes each seem even stronger together.
Most Impactful:
Walter Knox, Averill Lakes Streamer II
The colors show more vividly with the black background. The tack sharpness is a stand out high point of this image. The composition is cropped intently with space to breathe and a nice balance of negative space.
Honorable Mentions:
Jennifer Kano, Walking in Wonderland: The sense of isolation comes through extremely strong in this image. The cool tones of the image give a sense of lonely moodiness. The image composition has nice soft detail in sky and water with the person as an anchor point.
Milt Williamson Fence & Shadows: The sepia tone to the image matches the subjects of sand and wood perfectly. The composition is entwined with straight lines and implied curves.
Kristin Alexander Nobska at Dusk: Absolutely perfect use of the extreme panorama format. The wide view shows the four elements of earth, land, sea and sky.
Manny Dimaculangan Accipiter striatus: The image is tack sharp where it needs to be and soft in the wing feather to accentuate the details of the head and eye of the hawk.
Overall comment:
The original set of images entered was overwhelming in quality and varied in types of photography. It was extremely hard to eliminate images that I thought were worthy of being accepted. I hope that my wide ranging interests in photography helped me to select a diverse collection of images for this exhibition.
