Cotuit resident William Hemmerdinger is a modernist artist from Los Angeles. His painting, Untitled – Bunraku Performer, 1982, is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. The Federal Reserve Bank, San Francisco and Mobil Oil, New York also collect his works. Hemmerdinger has participated in over 900 international group and solo exhibitions. A former professor of art and architecture he has also functioned as art critic, curator, author of art research, gallery owner and designer. His professional archive, William Hemmerdinger Papers, is preserved at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles.
