Juror’s Statement about the show:
It was an honor to be the juror for this abstract show here at Falmouth Art Center. Congratulations to all the participants and to all the artists who submitted, sharing their creativity.
I always learn from participating in events such as this. Art for all of us is a learning process and viewing these exhibitions creates an awareness of our valuable surroundings.
—Michael A. Giaquinto
Best in Show: Faith Lund, Submersive
This painter shows a strong sense of abstraction and painterly quality, as well as a visually strong use of color and shape with an understanding of overall sense of placement on canvas.
Juror’s Choice: Peter Morrison, Abstract #8
This is a brilliant image, wonderful simplicity of restful strength. Those two red lines prevent the strong black painted circle from rolling off. The white field protects the grey field.
Most Impactful: Herb Edwards, Big Pharma
This painting is marked by bold color with strong movement of ovoid shapes floating in front of us; our eyes are set in motion—a balancing act animated. There is a keen sense of dynamic balance of top and bottom.
Best Shape Relationships: Sarah Kahn, Shelter, collage
The juxtaposition of color and shapes produce a bold, engaging composition. With movement of color and shapes, along with overlap, the piece depicts a space with balance, a beautiful work.
Best Composition: Alice N. Galick, Recycle, woodcut
The strength of this woodcut is the layering and movement of line, shape and color. It is presented with abstraction, textures and a sense of being in the moment. The artist demonstrates the engaging composition with technical strength.
