Fascinated by Van Gogh’s impressionist art? Like Jon Sargent’s watercolors or a portrait by Rembrandt? These artworks can be translated into a mosaic medium by using stained glass as paint and cutting and nipping tools as brushes. Students will learn how to decipher the sequence in which the artwork was created, how to start, follow through and add finishing touches to the mosaic, and how to pick out proper colors and assign effective andamento (the flow).

To ease the process of translation the students have a choice to use a double reverse method for glass working directly over the image. The instructions will be given during the workshop. Because the layout takes place right on top of the image and the pieces are adhered to a sticky film first, the method makes the color and shape matching less complicated and the whole layout process faster. After the layout is complete, the mosaic is securely adhered to a permanent substrate. Board size: 10″x12″, glass, adhesives and other materials are provided. Students need to bring tools for cutting and nipping glass and an image. More detailed list will be sent to students prior to the workshop’s start.

Materials fee of $50 due to Yulia at start of workskhop.

Refunds will not be given within one month of the start of a workshop or within one week of the start of a class. Classes are not pro-rated, and there are no makeups for missed classes. A $25 processing fee is withheld from all refunds.
The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment, in which case tuition will be fully refunded.
