Saturday, August 19th from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Learn all about wood firing in this informational workshop. Participants will learn multiple making techniques that are well suited for the varying atmospheres of wood fired kilns. Surface decoration and specific glaze and slip techniques will also be a focus. The Friday night presentation will highlight what wood firing is, its historical roots, and will touch on the many wood kilns that exist within our Southcoastal and Cape areas. After an entertaining and informational night, we will continue on Saturday with demonstrations of throwing and handbuilding with a focus on special slip decoration. Anyone who hopes to fire one of the many accessible wood kilns in our area should make a point to take this workshop! The Falmouth Art Center has also been invited to share space in the upcoming October Wood Firing at the studio of world renowned artist Chris Gustin in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Those who wish to be considered for this honor MUST attend this workshop.

This is not a hands on workshop although some participants will be asked to experience certain techniques.
