This is a ten week class.

Develop hand building techniques and combine with wheel throwing. We will draw on various historical and contemporary ceramic approaches to influence our creative thinking. For preparation, do some Google research on pottery from ancient Mayan, Japanese, African, or a culture of  your choice, or choose a contemporary ceramic artist whose work intrigues you. We will use your research as the basis for work made in this class.

Sue earned a BFA from Boston University with a major in graphic design. After many years in high-tech marketing, she studied ceramics at the DeCordova Museum School and at Harvard University with Makoto Yabe, Shawn Panepinto, and Waasma Chorbachi. She is continually exploring new design ideas and firing methods, most recently wood-firing. Her most important design influence is Japanese wood fired ceramics.

Materials List:
Fee includes 25 pounds of clay, glaze and firing fee. A tool kit may be purchased for $12. Open studio time, which is scheduled several times throughout the week, is available at no extra charge.
