March 30, 2017 - May 4, 2017
5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
This class will assist artists in developing skills to create better paintings, and is suitable for all painting mediums. The goal of this class will be to increase your awareness of the technical, creative and emotional components of the painting process, ultimately to help you make better artistic decisions.
Artists new to pastel are welcome as this class can accommodate beginner pastelists. For all other mediums, you should have a working knowledge of the medium you will be using.
Classes will include themes with warm-up exercises intended to develop a thoughtful approach to painting; such as necessary drawing skills, pre-planning for a painting, employing compositional structures, developing an “eye” for values & color. Artists will be encouraged to share, with critiques directed towards understanding and explaining the choices we make as artists.
Students should bring appropriate materials for their chosen medium.
Betsy Payne Cook paints exclusively with pastels, and is honored to be elected as a Juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America and to have achieved signature membership status in the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. Betsy is also acknowledged as a Juried Master Artist at the Cape Cod Art Association. Betsy’s paintings depict her impressions of the landscape and its abundance of colors. She paints both en plein air and in her studio; and conveys her love of the outdoors in each painting. Betsy publishes a newsletter and a blog both titled “Painting In and Out”, sharing her thoughts on her life as an artist.
